I have about 9 months of architectural drafting here in Auckland, New Zealand, and was looking for a job. I am now close to giving up on that idea-maybe it is an age thing (I am nearly 69), and do not usually get a reply for the jobs applied for. Could be the small amount of experience.
So any houses I draw here are about designing/drawing for a hobby only, something I enjoyed while helping my friend learn Autocad for his Architectural degree.
This house is proposed for a site near me, and my plan was to offer renderings etc to Real Estate agents to enable them to sell an unbuilt house. They have not replied, but I carry on anyway.
Yes, I know I could have spent hours putting in plants/letterboxes etc....and this is the 2 minute render option in Revit.
The original house as advertised was a pretty standard single level house, but it occurred to me that the house did not take advantage of the views on offer. The original designer built it to take advantage of the sun, something I am also keen on when designing. So I converted it into a two storey monster. Strange how the outside look ended up being controlled by the internal layout.
If anything, it has made me realise the enormous constraints suffered by "normal" architects: The house has to be made of reasonably priced materials, and the expectations of the public in terms of what they perceive as a "house". This house was drawn using weatherboards that are not made out of wood, they just look like wooden ones.
This is probably not a very good excuse for bad design, as there are other houses in this area that look very presentable, if a little expensive. I notice there are still some of these for sale off the plans but they do not seem to be selling.
